Etymology opening passage from the source article
北陣（きたじん）は、日本相撲協会の年寄名跡のひとつ。陣幕久五郎を祖とする。陣幕長兵衛を祖とする名跡「陣幕」と区別するために「北陣幕」と呼んでいたものが「北陣」へと変化したものである。1927年（昭和2年）の東西合併時に大阪相撲由来の名跡のため、一度廃家となるが、1942年（昭和17年）に復活した。
